Bus Underground

A co-learning space for building a better world.

What?

Bus Underground is a youth-led organizer clinic focused on drop-in skill-sharing, leadership development, and building lasting connections within a community of organizing.

Bus Underground can offer volunteer hours for students’ graduation requirements.

When?

This program runs during mid-winter and ends mid-spring. Our first 2026 session is on February 18th! This program switches from hybrid/in-person to virtual. Make sure to RSVP to know the details of each session!

Green sticky note on a whiteboard reads 'Saint Rat Summer' with a drawing of a rat and the words 'Summer' written in a playful way. Nearby, a pink sticky note in the background celebrates the passing of the 'Automatic Voter Registration Exposure bill' in May 2025.
A group of people sitting around a long table in a room with teal and yellow walls. Some are looking down at their devices or notes, and two women are standing at the end of the table, one with red hair and purple shirt, and another with light brown hair and white shirt.

Why?

At the Washington Bus, we're recognizing that the movement to create a better future for youth is filled with incredible organizing opportunities, but lacks a community-centered and non-exploitative collaborative space where young organizers can acquire skills and build genuine connections with aligned youth. Bus Underground is our solution—basically, our excuse to hang out, skill share, and plot our plans to build a better future for all people in our state!

Bus Underground functions as a drop-in community space and a sort of monster-of-the-week episodic workshop that funnels youth into existing pipelines of young activists and organizers. Many organizers, whether new or battle-hardened, need a place to try different tactics, receive peer feedback on their own community organizing projects, and develop their self-advocacy.

Bus Underground is a program of the Washington Bus Education Fund, the 501(c)3 sister organization of the Washington Bus 501(c)4.
