| What Moves The Bus |
|
Health Care Forty-seven million Americans have no health insurance. Excuse us, but that's sick. And wrong. The Bus supports candidates and policies seriously committed to change. Environment With just 4 percent of the world's population, America spews more than a quarter of its climate disrupting pollution. If you think we should get a little more serious about reducing emissions by being comprehensive stewards of the environment, you should join us. Economic Justice The average Latino man earns 63 percent as much as a white man for comparable work. A black man earns about three-fourths as much, as do women of all races. The average federal tax rate paid by the 252 biggest corporations in the United States is just 2.3 percent. Outrageous, right? We exist to exact more fairness and opportunity from our economic system. Equal Rights We take the "all men are created equal" bit in the Declaration of Independence to mean "all humans." We also think, like most Americans, that this is the foundation of our democracy. Imagine! Election Reform Young people have been dealt out of the political game, in part, because they are not filthy rich and can't afford the price to play. We support campaign finance reform that brings ordinary people back into our democracy. A+ Education We expect and are working for better funding of and heightened accountability from our public education system, from head start to the public universities. Transportation A transportation policy driven by the auto industry and the highway lobby has forced too many of us to work to feed our cars, when a smarter choice might be to build vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods and support them with frequent, convenient transit, sidewalks and bike paths. Sick of living in your car? Get on The Bus! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) |
