The (lug)nuts and bolts

Here's a sample of what the Bus gets up to:

Leadership Development

The Bus exists to empower, train and support young people. During the summer, the Bus runs PowerCorps, a ten-week political training bootcamp that equips young people to successfully run campaigns and be effective organizers. Throughout the year, Bus interns fuel the Bus's activities and help run our programs. Every Bus program is volunteer-run, and all volunteers have the opportunity to be leaders, whether it's their first time on the Bus, or their fifteenth.

Bus trips

Why are we called the Bus? Well, because we own one. And during the Summer and Fall we load up our beautiful 1989 MCI coach with volunteers and go to support young progressive candidates across Washington. Bus trips provide a blast of energy for campaigns and complement the work already being done on the ground. Plus, they're straight up fun. Knocking on thousands of doors in one day, then chowing down on some delicious barbeque? Yes please.

Getting out that vote

How do you get someone to vote? Tell them to. Believe it or not, it can be that simple. And the Bus wants to make sure people all across the state vote. Especially young people. And we get it done in all kinds of different ways. Trick or Vote is our costumed Halloween get-out-the-vote canvass - in 2008 we knocked on over 6,500 doors in one evening, then threw the best Halloween party in town! The VoteBot Army is an ever-growing force of young voters committing to turn in their ballots. Perhaps you've seen VoteBot at a party near you. No? Then get familiar on Facebook! The You Are Perfect campaign contacted thousands of young voters across the state and made sure they turned their ballots in for the 2009 primary. Did it work? You better believe it.

Political party, not political parties

What's the most fun you've ever had at a political event? Got it? Okay, now multiply that by about 1,000 and you'll have an idea of what Bus events are like. Anytime you can get 700 young people in a downtown Seattle club while city council candidates perform secret talents and answer policy questions, you know something special is going on. That's exactly what we did for Candidate Survivor, the biggest candidate forum in Seattle history. And that's just one event - every month we hold the Washington Buzz, our 21+ happy hour night, as well as Parliament, our all-ages throwdown at the Vera Project. Of course you want to be here.

Bottom line, the Bus is doing it big. And we want you to be on board! Sign up for the Bus today!
